However, for most non-life threatening burns, our doctors will begin by trying to soothe the pain of the burn while also checking the severity. A topical medication may be applied next to help with the healing of the burn as well as with pain management before the burn is dressed. Depending on the severity of the burn, additional medication may be administered to prevent infections, or a tetanus shot will be given.
